Why are we making this change?
Education, efficiency, and the environment. Each child's education is important to us and the communication between our staff and your family is key to ensuring your child has a positive educational experience. We believe that communicating with your family via electronic format is the most efficient method because it provided both parties with a record of the child's development in a central location. No more, notices to you the paper filled backpacks, all you paperwork is electronic the bonus is its environmentally friendly.
The theory behind this "green" initiative is rooted to need to address the Digital Divide, by breaking the cycle. We all know that children learn through modeling, seeing their caregiver use a computer and access information is as important as literacy, language and mathematics if not more critical in this day in age. These preschoolers will not know life without a personal computer, the Internet and mobile communication, so its important to integrate technology as an everyday part of life. It is our responsibility to prepare the next labor force and computer skills are a necessity.
What is need to make this a success?
Caregivers need to be able to access their child's account, at least weekly; there will be a system on site available for use. Caregivers, may opt out of the "green" initiative by contributing to the health of our community in a different format.
How will we implement this initiative?
Each student will be provided an user account, for primary caregivers to access and receive updates about what is going on in the center. Daily, a staff member will post the daily activities of students, the PA Learning Standards that apply and extension activities to be completed (homework). Additionally, weekly reminders will be posted, request for information/items and access to resources.
