| Looking for a way to motivate your students to write? Check out this Essay & Poetry Contest! | Jackie Robinson Breaking Barriers In Sports, In Life This essay and poetry contest is offered through the Pittsburgh Pirates and is open to elementary and middle school students in grades 3 thru 8. Contest Winners will be honored during an on-field ceremony before the Pirates-Reds game on Friday, April 16th, 2010 as the Pirates celebrate Jackie Robinson Day at PNC Park. Essay: Write a 100-200 word essay the chronicles the personal struggles of Jackie Robinson. (Essay should be typewritten and double-spaced) Poetry: Write a 10-12 lined poem that explores one or more of Jackie Robinson's nine values for success; Courage, Determination, Teamwork, Persistence, Integrity, Citizenship, Justice, Commitment, Excellence. Carnegie Library Lecture Hall 10:30 am To purchase tickets online, CLICK HERE and then click on the blue button that says "Buy Now Online." | | New Policies @ Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh January 1, 2010 starts a new year and new late fees on children's materials at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. - Late fees on all children's book and materials borrowed after January 1, 2010 will be 20 cents a day for each item.
- Late fees apply to children's materials checked out on any library card.
- Books may be borrowed for 3 weeks with up to two renewals.
- Renew materials by phone (412-622-1895), online, or in the library.
- Fines totaling $2.00 or more can be paid online with Visa or MasterCard.
