Spreading our artistic wings

Today, Gateway to the Arts came to visit our classroom with artist Alison Zapata doing a reading and hands-on project using the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. This book is a favorite of preschoolers so they reading was great, plus she made it interactive by asking the children questions and having them join in the story telling. After the reading we sat down to do an AWESOME art project, creating wearable butterfly wings. The children got to create their own wings as we talked about symmetry of the wings. The thought it was cool that what ever was on the left was also on the right.

Ms. Shimira didnt create the vest for the students to wear the wings because she is requesting the Head Start Educational Coach to laminate the wings so they can last longer. I hope to send them home by Friday. Alison also left additional materials and instructions for making grasshopper wings. This is our third year having Gateway to the Arts in our classroom and it ROCKS each time!
